Bupleurum Root

Organic bupleurum root, known by its Latin name as Bupleurem chinense, is actually the root of a perennial ornamental plant native to the Far East, known as there as Chai Hu. Organic bupleurum root has been recorded as one of the most important bitter botanicals in traditional Chinese medicine for over two thousand years.
Organic bupleurum root is a powerful detoxifier and decongestant and therefore is generally used in conjunction with other herbs to avoid excessive detoxification in too short of a time. Chinese practitioners believe that organic Bupleurem chinense is effective in regulating the qi or “life force” of the individual. It has been used to treat mild neurological disorders and to moderate emotional imbalances sometimes associated with sluggish liver function.

Organic bupleurum root is considered by most herbalists to be a deep liver cleanser. It may ease hepatitis, gallbladder, spleen and digestive ailments. It is also believed to invigorate the circulatory system while toning the heart, lungs and respiratory system. Bulk organic bupleurum root slices or powder can be blended with other herbs for more gentle treatments in poultices or toning baths.

Pregnant and nursing women should not take organic bupleurum root nor should anyone taking prescription drugs, without first consulting a medical doctor. It is used for treating the common cold that is accompanied by alternating symptoms of chills and fever; malaria; chest pain; prolapse of the anus, uterus, and other internal organs; and irregular menstruation.
