Buchu Leaf

Organic buchu leaf, properly called organic Barosma betulina, is actually from the buchu bush, a native flowering plant of South Africa. It is an ornamental, prized for its strong aromatic and medicinal properties. The rue-like fragrance has been used over the centuries as a pleasing perfume and to flavor wines.
Buchu is derived from the African word bookoo, meaning "dusting powder." The buchu leaf was used in traditional African medicine as a powder to deter insects, as well as to aid urinary, kidney, and prostate disorders.

Modern herbalists refer to the organic buchu leaf powder as a "specific" for bladder infections and it is considered one of the best herbs for the prostate gland. The buchu leaf powder is attributed with anti-inflammatory properties soothing to membranes of the urinary tract, as well as systemic healing of membranes including sinuses, lungs, gums, colon, prostate, and vagina. Volatile aromatic oils in the organic buchu leaf are said to promote the elimination of mucus, uric acid and stones from the kidneys, and to help in healing gout and rheumatism.

The leaf powder makes a luxurious bath and tea. Its potency is excellent for soothing compresses. Organic buchu leaf is not recommended for pregnant and nursing women. In gravel, inflammation and catarrh of the bladder it is specially useful.
