$17

Despite its common name, Gotu kola herb, or centella asiatica, is not related to the kola nut, contains no caffeine and has no stimulant properties. Quite the contrary, centella asiatica is actually has a tranquilizing effect on the body, particularly the central nervous system. Some naturopathic doctors and herbalists have recommended the use of organic bulk herbs such as powder gotu kola herb as a less toxic alternative to the prescription drugs commonly (over)used to medicate children who have been labelled as “ADD” or “ADHD.”

In the Ayurvedic system of medicine, doctors in India have traditionally used wildcrafted herbs like centella asiatica granules as treatment for various skin conditions, including topical injuries, skin sores, burns and even leprosy. Research indicates that organic bulk herbs such as cut gotu kola herb may also have beneficial effects on connective tissues and mucous membranes as well. In burn therapy, gotu kola herb has been shown to reduce the time needed for healing as well as the formation of scar tissue; medicinal herbs of this type appear to stimulate the synthesis of collagen, which is always the initial stage in the repair of skin surfaces.

Research studies also suggest that the use of gotu kola herb and similar dried herbs promote improved circulation (hence its reputation as “brain food”) by nourishing veins, arteries and capillaries.
